The Long Way Home

Thoughts on a family road trip to Oklahoma

Please select listing to show.

My family just returned from a lengthy road trip to see my sister and her family in Tulsa, Oklahoma. Getting there we took as direct of a route as possible. However, coming home, we took the long way round…

I got to take my mom, wife, and daughter to see some of the sights my band would stop off at on our tours. We saw Mount Rushmore, pulled into the cabin in Kansas where “Home on the range” was composed, and took an afternoon to explore Yellowstone National Park.

The extra days became memories for my family to share.

Dining in Buffalo Bill’s hotel in Cody, Wyoming… Stopping at Buc-ees in Colorado… the list goes on and on.

We’d originally planned to fly, but saved piles of money by just driving it. Taking the long way added so much value however, and our family is richer for it. As a family living on mission, it’s easy for us to miss moments like this. We’re often in a hurry to get to the next spot, to complete the next task, or to help the next person in need.

Making time for my family to be priority-one is vital, and I’m so glad we were able to use this road trip for exactly that.

Often, the best things in life are the ones that take the longest to do.

For the record, I was very glad to be done driving.

I’m back in the office this week, plotting this summer’s events and efforts. Raising support for Nations Outreach to continue it’s projects, and spending time with those we love in our home town.

I will be heading abck to Europe in the coming months to spend time with missionaries and leaders on the ground as we work to care for people and tell their stories.

Thank you for taking the time to read this update from our family,

Andy
