There are 2.4 million orphans in Uganda, according to UNICEF . At the Jinja Children's Home, we care for over 50 boys and girls. We are currently building a second home to separate the boys and girls, working to improve children's nutrition, and get the kids into better schools.

What steps are being taken to improve the nutrition of the children?

To improve the children's nutrition, our first step was to ensure daily meals for stability. Moving forward, we are focusing on incorporating animal proteins and more nutritious foods into their diets. Our goal requires raising approximately $5,000 each month to provide balanced meals across the orphanage, which will significantly enhance the nutritional quality and health of the kids.

What educational improvements are being planned for the children?

Currently, every child is going to a school. The problem is that most of the children are going to the cheapest schools available due to a lack of funding. We would like to send the kids to better schools, including secondary schools with boarding, but we need to increase funding to make that happen. By enhancing educational opportunities, we aim to give the children a more robust foundation for their future success.

What types of supplies are needed for the children's education?

The children at the Jinja Children's Home are in need of various school supplies, including school uniforms, textbooks, notebooks, pencils, pens, and other learning materials. So far, thanks to generous donors like you, we have been able to make significant strides in providing these essential supplies for the children. However, there is still more work to be done as we continue our efforts towards improving education at the orphanage.

How does the orphanage plan to become self-sustaining in the future?

We are helping Joseph and his team start a business that will raise animals that they can sell to generate income. This initiative not only offers a practical path to self-sustainability but also addresses the orphanage's nutrition challenges. By creating a reliable revenue stream and reducing food costs, the orphanage can focus on expanding other crucial services, ensuring a brighter future for the children in their care.

At this time, we do not offer child sponsorships at the Jinja Children's Home. Instead, we invite you to become a monthly donor to the project. Who leads the Jinja Children’s Home?

Local missionary, who was an orphan himself, Joseph Mumbya leads the Jinja Children's Home in Uganda. State-side, the project is overseen by two of our board members–Craig Finley and Todd Young. Additionally, three dedicated women, Dada, Gloria, and Hariett, are integral to the orphanage's daily operations, ensuring that the children receive care, support, and education. Their combined efforts are crucial in maintaining the nurturing environment the orphanage is known for.

How can I volunteer at the Jinja Children’s Home?

Throughout the year, we take multiple mission teams to the Jinja Children's Home, where volunteers can help with a variety of projects like construction, caring and playing with the kids, and helping with chores around the orphanage. We also have opportunities for churches and youth groups to send their mission teams to the orphanage.

We are working to sustain the orphanage, improve nutrition, and help send the kids to better schools. But we need your help. We need to finish the Girls House Project and raise $5,000 in monthly giving to achieve our goals.

Jinja Children’s Home

The orphanage in Jinja, Uganda is home to over 50 children. Led by missionary Joseph Mumbya, the kids have a daily routine of going to school, doing chores, nightly devotions, and playtime. Your gift helps feed, educate, and house all of the children and staff.

Girls House Project

We are expanding the orphanage, building a girls-only house. Until recently, all of the kids have been in one house, with some kids sleeping two to one bunk. We need your help raising $25,000 to completely finish the girls home.

Providing Education

We want all 50 kids at the Uganda orphanage to receive a good education. 33% of children who start primary school in Uganda will drop out before completing. Our mission is to send all of the kids to the best schools possible, while providing school uniforms, textbooks, and materials required to attend class.

Improving Nutrition

One of the biggest challenges we face at the Uganda orphanage is the lack of nutrition. We need to add proteins and nutritious foods to the kids’ diet. A plate of rice is an expensive luxury in Jinja. We need you to make the difference and improve the nutrition the children receive.

There are over 2 million orphans in Uganda. These children face many challenges including poverty, poor health, and lack of food, housing, sanitation, and education.

We are partnered with the Jinja Children’s Home, a small Christian orphanage in Uganda that currently houses over 50 children ages 4-18. Led by Joseph Mumbya, the Jinja Children’s Home offers children hope.

Our team is working alongside Joseph to develop a budget, plan for improvement projects, and help the orphanage become self-sustaining in the next 7 years.

Girls House Project

As the children grow, it has become necessary to house the boys and girls in separate quarters. In 2023, a donor purchased the house and land next door to the children’s home in order to expand the ministry to more children and to provide privacy and separation between the boys and girls.

At the time it was purchased it was just a brick shell of a house with a grass floor, and no roof. Since then, the project has slowly progressed but funding is needed to take it to the finish line.

To complete it we need flooring, windows, plaster, paint, electrical and furniture. Let’s chip in to get these kids what they need to have decent housing! Joseph and the women who work tirelessly by his side to love these children in the name of Jesus can use our support and prayers to help them.
