Who was Jesus? What was His mission on earth? Why does it matter? Many people often ask these questions. The answers to these three questions are the foundation of the Christian church as we know.

Our entire belief system is based around the person of Jesus Christ, who He is, and what He did for us. In this blog, we will explore what Jesus’ mission was on earth.

According to the Bible

Who was Jesus?

He was the one and only Son of God.

This was why the Jews were seeking all the more to kill him, because not only was he breaking the Sabbath, but he was even calling God his own Father, making himself equal with God. So Jesus said to them, “Truly, truly, I say to you, the Son can do nothing of his own accord, but only what he sees the Father doing. For whatever the Father does, that the Son does likewise. For the Father loves the Son and shows him all that he himself is doing. And greater works than these will he show him, so that you may marvel. For as the Father raises the dead and gives them life, so also the Son gives life to whom he will. For the Father judges no one, but has given all judgment to the Son, that all may honor the Son, just as they honor the Father. Whoever does not honor the Son does not honor the Father who sent him. Truly, truly, I say to you, whoever hears my word and believes him who sent me has eternal life. He does not come into judgment, but has passed from death to life.

John 5:18-24

For God so loved the world, that he gave his only Son, that whoever believes in him should not perish but have eternal life.

John 3:16

He is God.

“Behold, the virgin shall conceive and bear a son, and they shall call his name Immanuel” (which means, God with us).

Matthew 1:23

I and the Father are one.”

John 10:30

He was perfect. He never sinned.

For we do not have a high priest who is unable to sympathize with our weaknesses, but one who in every respect has been tempted as we are, yet without sin.

Hebrews 4:15

He committed no sin, neither was deceit found in his mouth.

1 Peter 2:22

What was His mission on earth?

He came to do God’s will on earth.

For I have come down from heaven, not to do my own will but the will of him who sent me.

John 6:38

He came to be light in a dark world.

Again Jesus spoke to them, saying, “I am the light of the world. Whoever follows me will not walk in darkness, but will have the light of life.”

John 8:12

He came to become the final sacrifice needed for us to have a reconciled relationship with God.

For our sake he made him to be sin who knew no sin, so that in him we might become the righteousness of God.

2 Corinthians 5:21

Why does it matter?

Because Jesus came to save the world and give us life through Him.

Jesus said to them, “I am the bread of life; whoever comes to me shall not hunger, and whoever believes in me shall never thirst.

John 6:35

Because ALL have sinned and every one of us needs a Savior.

But now the righteousness of God has been manifested apart from the law, although the Law and the Prophets bear witness to it—the righteousness of God through faith in Jesus Christ for all who believe. For there is no distinction: for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God, and are justified by his grace as a gift, through the redemption that is in Christ Jesus, whom God put forward as a propitiation by his blood, to be received by faith. This was to show God’s righteousness, because in his divine forbearance he had passed over former sins. It was to show his righteousness at the present time, so that he might be just and the justifier of the one who has faith in Jesus.

Romans 3:21-26

Jesus came to earth because of the unfathomable love of God for His creation. We fall desperately short of God’s glory, and so the perfect person of Jesus came to earth to become sin for us; to take the punishment for all of mankind. As God’s own son, He took every bit of God’s wrath so that we might have access directly to God THROUGH Him. He came to give us life where we had only death.

…for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God…

Romans 3:23

Knowing Jesus and have a relationship with God is incredibly simple. You must believe that He was and is the risen son of God. Then upon the confession of your sins and your need for Him, the Bible says you are saved.

…because, if you confess with your mouth that Jesus is Lord and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved. For with the heart one believes and is justified, and with the mouth one confesses and is saved. For the Scripture says, “Everyone who believes in him will not be put to shame.” For there is no distinction between Jew and Greek; for the same Lord is Lord of all, bestowing his riches on all who call on him. For “everyone who calls on the name of the Lord will be saved.”

Romans 10:9-13

Once this happens, you are charged with sharing the good news! How are others to hear if nobody is telling them? That is why we have decided to GO on a Jesus mission. To equip those who have been found with the knowledge and the ability to go, and find the lost who have not yet heard the incredible news of who Jesus is and why it matters to them.

How then will they call on him in whom they have not believed? And how are they to believe in him of whom they have never heard? And how are they to hear without someone preaching? And how are they to preach unless they are sent? As it is written, “How beautiful are the feet of those who preach the good news!” But they have not all obeyed the gospel. For Isaiah says, “Lord, who has believed what he has heard from us?” So faith comes from hearing, and hearing through the word of Christ.

Romans 10:14-17

We must GO.

We are going into the nations.
